If you want to open a drawer and close its parent drawer as-you-go without having to permanently turn on the corresponding option in Prefs/Workbench simply double-click the drawer you want to enter whilst holding down Right Amiga (or Left Amiga if you are using [[AmigaKeyRemapper|AmigaKeyRemapper]).
You can also do this with regular icons as well to close the current window after for example opening a document or running an application.
