AAC is a file format used for storing audio, popularised by iTunes (as it is the default format used when importing audio CDs into iTunes). M4A files are supported by TuneNet with an additional plug-in so you can play all your iTunes music with ease. TuneNet will not be able to play any M4P files that may reside on your system. iTunes no longer applies DRM to any of its music purchased through the iTunes Store.
