By pressing a certain key combinations, you can perform hidden actions or actions that normally need a mouse. To use a keyboard shortcut, press and hold one or more qualifier keys and then press the last key of the shortcut.

Startup

Amiga boots in three stages. In the first stage firmware (Bootloader) loads the AmigaOS kernel (Kickstart). In the second stage Kickstart loads the rest of the operating system modules and finally Workbench will be launched.

In each stage there are keyboard shortcuts for changing the default operation of the stage.

Bootloader

The following keyboard shortcuts are available right after powering the Amiga:

  • Enter: Open the Boot Options menu.
  • Esc: Open the bootloader menu.
  • Space: Open bootloader Command Prompt.

Kickstart

The keyboard shortcuts listed below are available just before the AmigaOS splash screen opens and just after the splash screen closes:

  • Help: Hold before the splash screen to open the Early Startup Menu.
  • Ctrl: Hold after the splash screen to open Amiga Shell.
  • Ctrl + D: Press after the splash screen to abort Startup-Sequence.

Workbench

These keyboard shortcuts are available when Workbench starts up.

  • Shift or Alt: Hold to skip Workbench startup modules.

Common Shortcuts

  • Left-Amiga + M: Flips through each open screen.
  • Left-Amiga + N: Flips to the Workbench screen.
  • Left-Amiga + V: Activates the leftmost button in a requester.
  • Left-Amiga + B: Activates the rightmost button in a requester.
  • Amiga + Arrows: Moves the mouse pointer.
  • Amiga + Shift + Arrows: Moves the mouse pointer faster.
  • Amiga + Right-Alt: Performs a right mouse button click.
  • Amiga + Left-Alt: Performs a left mouse button click.

Project

  • Amiga + N: Create a new file.
  • Amiga + O: Open a file.
  • Amiga + S: Save the current document.
  • Amiga + A: Open a Save As... requester for saving a file.
  • Amiga + P: Print the current document.
  • Amiga + Q: Quit application.

Editing

  • Amiga + X: Cut the selected item and copy it to the clipboard.
  • Amiga + C: Copy the selected item to the clipboard.
  • Amiga + V: Paste the contents of the clipboard into the current document or application.
  • Amiga + M: Select all items.
  • Amiga + U: Undo the previous command.
  • Amiga + Z: Redo – reverse the undo command.

Search and Replace

  • Amiga + F: Open the Find window for searching the current documentation.
  • Amiga + .: Find the next occurrence of the item previously found.
  • Amiga + R: Open the Replace window for searching and replacing items.

Information

  • Amiga + ?: Display information about the application.
  • Help: Open the context sensitive help.

Shell

  • Ctrl + C: Stop the currently running Shell program.
  • Ctrl + D: Stop the currently running AmigaDOS script.
  • Ctrl + \: Close the current Shell window.
  • Amiga + L: Load command history.
  • Amiga + A: Save command history.
  • Amiga + Z: Clear command history.
  • Amiga + K: Close the current Shell.
  • Amiga + <: Flip to the previous Shell.
  • Amiga + >: Flip to the next Shell.

Workbench

  • Right-Amiga + Open Drawer: Closes parent window when opening the drawer.
  • Right-Amiga + Close Gadget: Closes all open drawers.
  • Shift + Zoom Gadget: Enlarges a drawer window to full screen.
  • Shift + Drag Window: Forces window to stay withing the Workbench screen while dragging.
  • Ctrl + Alt + Drag Window Frame: Resizes a window from any edge or corner.
  • Ctrl + Amiga + Drag Window: Allows you to drag a window by clicking it anywhere.
  • Left-Amiga + Drag Screen: Moves or drags down a screen by clicking it anywhere.
  • Amiga + B: Toggle between windowed and windowless desktop.
  • Amiga + E: Execute a command.

Drawers

  • Amiga + N: Create a new drawer.
  • Amiga + K: Close the selected drawer.
  • Amiga + A: Select the current drawer contents.
  • Amiga + Z: Deselect the current drawer contents.
  • Amiga + .: Arrange the current drawer's icons by columns.
  • Amiga + 6: Arrange the current drawer's icons by name.
  • Amiga + 7: Arrange the current drawer's icons by date.
  • Amiga + 8: Arrange the current drawer's icons by size.
  • Amiga + 9: Arrange the current drawer's icons by type.
  • Amiga + -: Do not show hidden files and directories.
  • Amiga + +: Show all files and directories, except .icon files.
  • Amiga + 0: Show or hide .icon files.
  • Amiga + T: Show or hide thumbnails.
  • Amiga + 1: View the current drawer content as icons.
  • Amiga + 2: View the current drawer content as a list and sort the list by name.
  • Amiga + 3: View the current drawer content as a list and sort the list by date.
  • Amiga + 4: View the current drawer content as a list and sort the list by size.
  • Amiga + 5: View the current drawer content as a list and sort the list by type.
  • Amiga + !: Toggle between ascending and descending listing order.
  • Amiga + F: Search the current drawer.

Icons

  • Amiga + O: Open the currently selected icon.
  • Amiga + C: Duplicate the curently selected icon.
  • Amiga + R: Rename the currently selected icon.
  • Amiga + I: Show information about currently selected file or drawer.
  • Amiga + S: Save the currently selected icon's position.
  • Amiga + U: Forget the currently selected icon's position.
  • Amiga + L: Place the currently selected icon on the desktop.
  • Amiga + P: Put the currently selected desktop icon back to its home drawer.
  • Amiga + D: Delete the currently selected icon.
